A NEW CHAPTER FOR GIRLS’ DIGNITY AND EDUCATION AT KAVUMBA PRIMARY SCHOOL.

On 11th June, a moment filled with joy and hope unfolded at Kavumba Primary School as a new changing room was officially handed over under the #TheRightToBeAGirl project. The moment was exciting as pupils, teachers and guests gathered to witness a milestone that means so much in the lives of girls. This space represents care and a strong commitment to ensuring that girls stay in school and feel supported every single day.

The event was graced by the project team leader, Hope Nankunda who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the school for the warm welcome they have always shown. She shared that when the opportunity to establish such a facility arose, Kavumba Primary School was the first choice because of its openness and dedication to supporting girls. She also sincerely thanked the headteacher and the school matron for their continuous support in identifying girls who need help allowing the team to step in and make a real difference where it matters most.

In response, the headteacher expressed deep appreciation for the initiative noting that the changing room will provide a safe and private space for girls especially during their menstrual periods. He emphasized that this facility will help reduce absenteeism and give girls the confidence to stay in school without fear or discomfort. The school community welcomed the project with excitement, recognizing the positive impact it will have on the learners’ wellbeing and academic journey.

The occasion was further blessed by words from the Reverend who thanked the school for its cooperation and commitment to protecting the dignity of girls. He highlighted that periods should never be a reason for a girl to drop out of school and praised the collective effort to break stigma and create a supportive environment. The day ended on a high note, filled with smiles and renewed hope, as everyone looked forward to a future where every girl can learn, grow and thrive without barriers.
