UNITING TO PROTECT CHILDREN FROM ONLINE SEXUAL EXPLOITATION AND ABUSE.

Every child deserves to grow up in an environment that is safe, secure and free from all forms of violence both online and offline. On 17th June, stakeholders and child rights advocates came together to address the growing threat of online sexual exploitation and abuse affecting children and young people in Uganda. The engagement served as an important platform to raise awareness about emerging digital risks and reinforce the collective responsibility to protect children in an increasingly connected world.

The press release was held at the offices of the Uganda Child Rights NGOs Network and brought together partners under the Coalition to End Sexual Violence Against Children (SVAC). Representing our organization, our team member Dorah Kamwine joined fellow advocates in calling attention to the urgent need for stronger measures to safeguard children in digital spaces. As technology continues to transform how children learn, communicate and interact, members emphasized the importance of ensuring that online environments remain safe and supportive for every child.

The coalition called for strengthened child protection systems, increased digital literacy, survivor-centred responses and greater accountability from all stakeholders, including government institutions, schools, parents, communities and technology platforms. The engagement reaffirmed that protecting children from sexual violence is a shared responsibility that requires coordinated action and sustained commitment.

We are building a future where every child can learn, connect and thrive without fear of exploitation, abuse or harm.
