ROOTED: A JOURNEY OF PURPOSE, GROWTH AND LEADERSHIP.

Being rooted is knowing who you are and leading with purpose wherever you go. From 5th to 7th June, we participated in the Leaders Summit 2026 organised by Civ Legacy under the theme ROOTED, an experience that proved to be both transformative and deeply inspiring.

Our members, Pillar Mbabazi and Dorah Kamwine joined other young leaders at The Great Outdoors, Kalanamu where what was expected to be a typical conference quickly turned into a powerful journey of self discovery and connection. From the very first day filled with introductions, games and shared laughter a sense of community was built. As the evening set in, members gathered around the campfire where songs like “Pleased” and “Because of Education” created a memorable and emotional atmosphere reminding everyone that leadership is about connection, purpose and shared human experiences.

The second day began with an energising walk and a visit to Kalanamu Public Primary School where members distributed food and sanitary pads to learners. This activity reinforced a powerful message that no girl should miss school because of her periods. A highlight of the visit was meeting the 92-year-old Babirye whose energy inspired everyone present and demonstrated that purpose keeps the spirit alive regardless of age. The day continued with engaging activities and meaningful fireside conversations with elders who shared timeless lessons about staying rooted in values, building character serving others and living with intention.

The final day offered a calm and reflective start with a therapeutic walk to the oasis allowing members to process the experience and renew their sense of purpose. For us, the summit was a reminder that leadership goes beyond titles and achievements, it is about the values we uphold and the lives we impact. As Pillar and Dorah returned, they carried with them new friendships, fresh perspectives and a deeper commitment to lead with purpose. ROOTED was a call to remain grounded, intentional and impactful in every space of influence.
