Raising Teenagers Uganda has been part of the Influencing Inclusive Access to Girls Education program supported by FEMNET and Echidna Giving. The program has built the capacity of girls and young women in TVET Centers who have taken up male dominated professions. Some of the girls are engineers, plumbers, welders, mechanics and so much more. Its great to see the project expand to Kenya and benefit more girls and young girls in the region. Girls from Kenya & Uganda unite to share knowledge and best practices. An inspiring exchange fostering growth & transformation!
FEMNET has applied a gender lens in the project to: Support programs and advocacy efforts that help young women and girls get the skills training and education they need to succeed in life. Promoting awareness on the benefits of technical and vocational education for young women and girls at every opportunity and of the need for curricula free of gender stereotypes, including at international forums, bilateral talks and informal meetings.
Launching this project in Kisumu County presents an opportunity for young girls in the region to thrive as they break barriers and build futures. Youth unemployment in Kisumu County and throughout Kenya can be addressed better through an education system that is able to produce the right skills in the realities of globalization and the complexity of the current trends. Since the youth are the strength, wealth and drivers of future development of a country, it is necessary to appropriately equip and empower them to attain and realizer their full potential.
This will eventually help the county to address youth unemployment, achieve global competitiveness and prosperous county status with a high-quality life in a clean and secure environment as envisaged by Kenya’s Vision 2030. Youth positioning and empowerment in the national building plans is key to the development of any nation.
We are happy to have one of our Champions Mercy Ainomugisha as part of the program. She is also a female mechanic that is breaking barriers and building futures for girls in Uganda and beyond.
