BREAKING STIGMA, PROMOTING DIGNITY AND ADVANCING MENSTRUAL HEALTH FOR EVERY GIRL

Creating a Period Friendly World begins with education, empathy and the courage to challenge stigma. On 30th May 2026, in commemoration of Menstrual Health Management Day 2026, we joined our partners, Transcend Africa under the Wezesha Girls Initiative for the post-International Menstrual Hygiene Day celebrations at Kira Secondary School.  The event brought together young people for a day of learning, open dialogue and empowerment around menstrual health and hygiene. It was inspiring to witness both boys and girls actively participating in discussions, creating a safe and inclusive environment where important conversations could take place without fear, embarrassment or judgment.

One of the most encouraging highlights of the day was the curiosity demonstrated by the learners. They asked thoughtful questions, shared personal experiences and sought accurate information about menstruation and reproductive health. Bringing boys and girls together to learn fostered understanding, challenged harmful norms and helped break the stigma often associated with menstruation. The discussions reinforced the importance of equipping young people with the knowledge and confidence they need to become advocates for positive change within their schools, families and communities.

As part of our commitment to promoting menstrual dignity, sanitary pads were donated to support girls in managing their periods safely, comfortably and with confidence. This contribution reflects our belief that no girl should miss out on education, opportunities or full participation in daily life because of her period. We extend our sincere gratitude to all the partners, teachers and young people who made the day a success. Together, we will continue to break stigma, promote dignity and build a Period Friendly World where every girl feels supported, empowered and free to reach her full potential.
