MENTORSHIP THAT BRINGS CHANGE CLOSER TO THE COMMUNITY.

Sometimes, the most powerful lessons are not found in a classroom, they are found in the conversations that give a young person the courage to think, speak and choose differently.

On 9th September 2026, we held our annual community holiday mentorship program at Bukondo Primary School in Namayumba bringing together more than 50 holidaymakers for an empowering session ahead of the new school term. We focused on goal setting, personal hygiene, peer mentorship and building healthy relationships because preparing children for a new term goes beyond textbooks and uniforms. It means equipping them with knowledge, confidence, positive values and the ability to make healthy choices.

One of the highlights was the “What Would You Do?” game, a thought-provoking activity that brought real life situations into the room and gave young people a safe and engaging space to think critically, ask questions, speak up, consider different perspectives and develop practical solutions. Rather than simply telling them what to do, we encouraged them to think for themselves. Young people are facing real challenges every day and the time to equip them is now not after a crisis happens.

We were honoured to have the Head Teacher, Mr.kizito joining us and appreciated the initiative while also raising an important concern about limited parental involvement in children’s education. Parents and caregivers cannot leave the responsibility of educating, guiding and protecting children to teachers alone. Christine,a pupil at Bukondo in P.7 who has been part of our programs also shared some of the lessons and experiences she has gained showing how meaningful engagement can shape the way young people think, make decisions and respond to challenges.

Mentorship is an investment in who young people can become. We must continue creating spaces where they do not simply participate but learn, question, speak up, make informed decisions and lead. When we bring these conversations closer to the community, we create opportunities for young people to discover their voices, build confidence and find solutions to the challenges they face because every child deserves guidance, a safe space to be heard, positive role models and the confidence to dream and pursue that dream.
